Abstract
Aim: to determine the role of amifostine in prevention of ischemia/reperfusion injury. Materials and Methods: 30 adult rats were divided into three groups. Group I: Control (n=6), group II: Ischemia-control (n = 12), group III: Amifostine treated (n = 12). SPSS version 20 (SPSS Inc., Chicago, Illinois, USA). Results: At the 7th day, BUN level was found statistically significantly higher in group II than rest two groups (p<0.05) and mean serum creatinine levels were found to be the highest in group II (p<0.05). Between group II and III, there was a significant difference in reduced glutathione (GSH) levels (p<0.05). Conclusion: Amifostine could decrease the degree and severity of necrosis after reperfusion.
